Birmingham, United Kingdom 27-28 November 2009 International conference organised and funded by the BASEES-UACES EU-Russia Research Network in collaboration with the Centre for Russian and East European Studies, University of Birmingham Friday 27 - Saturday 28 November 2009 Call for Papers open until 9 October 2009 Taken from the title of a seminal article in International Affairs in 2000 by Professor Vladimir Baranovsky, the theme of this international conference centres on relations between the European Union and Russia; following a decade of turbulence in Russia's relations with Europe since Professor Baranovsky's article appeared, the problems it raised are even more pertinent today. The conference will focus on contemporary political, economic and security issues that lie at the heart of the relationship and will feature a number of prominent speakers. Papers are invited on the following themes: •Recent policy developments in EU-Russia relations •European security governance: a new institutional framework? •Trade and energy relations •The Eastern Partnership: security in the 'shared neighbourhood' •Freedom , security and justice: a 'common space' of internal security? Authors of selected papers presented at the conference will be invited to submit articles for a special issue of a peer-reviewed journal to appear early in 2010.
