“Islam in a Multicultural World”

The following topics are going to be examined and discussed at the Forum sessions:
• Topical issues of the Islamic Studies in Russia and in the world
• Islamic source studies: texts, translations, commentaries.
• Cultural and religious influence of Islam on the civilization.
• The theory and practice of Sufism.
• Islamic Law culture
• Arabic and Islamic Philosophy
• Islam in the Volga-Ural region
• Islam and the contemporary social economic development of the Muslim countries
• Muslim socio-political thought in XXI
• Muslim communities in the Western countries
• Islam and the Intercultural Dialogue
• Present-day problems of the Inner-Islamic Dialogue
• The Art of the Islamic world

The following panel discussions will be held:
• Changing elites and the transformation of the political institutes in the Muslim countries in focus of the present situation in the Middle East.
• Topical issues of the Muslim Law Studies in Russia and in the world.

Forum languages: Russian, English

Russian and foreign scholars, professors, post-graduate students, NGO and government, businessmen are invited to participate in the Forum.

An application for participation including personal information and the theme of the report is required. See application form in the attachment. The application deadline is 15th of May 2011.

Organizational committee is going to publish the digest of the Forum before it starts. Approved participants will be asked to e-mail their papers as attached files (Word or RTF) no later than 31 of August 2011. Text content: no more than 20 typewritten pages (font – Times New Roman, point size – 14, line pitch – 1,5).
After all the documents are received and discussed by the expert commission, the program of the Forum (work of the plenary and topical sessions) and list of participants will be finalized (no later than15th of June 2011). Further information about the organization of the Forum will be given in the news letter #2.
