Communication Management Specialists at EUPRERA Congress Del 28/10/2008 al 28/10/2008; Milan. The EUPRERA (European Public Relations Education and Research Association) Congress «Institutionalizing Public Relations and Corporate Communication» took place on the 16-18 October 2008 in Milan at the University of Languages and Communication (IULM).
There were 15 sections with the focus on theoretical and practical questions such as the role and functions of modern PR, social responsibility of PR, PR and communication management to name a few of them. More than 200 academics, researchers and practitioners from Belgium, Bulgaria, Finnland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukrain and other European countries attended the Congress. The participation and EUPRERA membership of the researchers from Australia, Algeria, Brazil, Ghana, Malasia, Nigeria, the Republic of South Africa, Uganda, the USA have become an evidence of growing popularity of this organization. The EUPRERA members – Prof. E.N. Pashentsev, the head of the Communication management centre (CMC) at the Russian-German Graduate School of Management (the Academy of National Economy), Director of International Centre of Sociopolitical Studies and Consulting (ICSPSC), the member of Russian Public Relations Assosiation and Russian International Studies Assosiation; O. Polunina, assosiated fellow at the CMC and the researchers on probation at the CMC – A. Batova, A. Zudochkina, N. Chentsov – together with the representatives of the Saint Petersburg State Electrotechnical University formed one of the biggest groups of the participants. There was a great response to the speeches of the directors of communication subdivisions of well-known transnational companies: the external relations director of Telecom Italia Group Carlo Fornao; the director of corporate communications and stakeholders relations subdivision of the department of external relations of Enel Group Paolo Iamateo and the senior communication official of Gruppo Monte Paschi David Rossi. The leading idea of their messages was the problem of institutionalization of PR, the role of administrative function of PR, the enhencement of PR-specialists’ efficiency. A number of papers at the Congress were focused on the problems of communication management: * Prof. Ralph Tench (Leeds Metropolitan University) – Personal communication management. * Prof. Howard Nothhaft (University of Leipzig) – Communication management as a Second-Order management Function: roles and functions of the communication executive – Results from a shadowing study. * Prof. Evgeny Pashentsev (the head of CMC) – Communication management within the framework of MBA program. * Olga Polunina (CMC) – Communication management of the EU in Latin America etc. During the Congress Prof. E. Pashentsev had a discussion with EUPRERA President, the director of educational department of the Italian Public Relations Federation Emanuele Invernizzi. Mr. Invernizzi answered several questions and commented on the specific features of European PR system development and on the problems of social responsibility of PR in the event of the global crisis.
