Altay Communities: Migrations and Emergence of Nations
Del 30/04/2011 al 30/04/2011; Istanbul (Turquía).
nternational Symposium on Altay Communities:
Migrations and Emergence of Nations
Istanbul, July 18-19, 2011

First Circular

We are pleased to announce that the Symposium on the Altay Communities
related to the "Migrations and the Emergence of Nations" will be held
in Istanbul, on 18-19 July 2011

The Organizing Committee calls for your presentation of current
research on the Altay Communities related to the themes of history,
migrations, emergence and formation of communities, languages,
linguistics, nation building and their civilization values etc.

Individual papers will be organized into thematic sections and
quality-monitored by the Organizing Committee. Abstracts for
individual papers should not exceed 300 words. The desirable duration
of a paper presentation is 15 minutes; it must not exceed 20 minutes.
In case it becomes necessary to limit the number of papers, the
selection will be made by members of the Organizing Committee. Apart
from individual papers, panels on the same themes are to be organized.

Contributions submitted by applicants for presentation within a Panel
are to be vetted by a Vetting Board chaired by the Panel Leader. The
Vetting Board consists of a group of three members (including the
chairman) from three different countries who formulate the reasons for
accepting or refusing a submitted paper and reach their decision by
simple majority vote, with the Panel Leader's vote counting for two.
This vetting procedure should not only ensure the suitability and
quality of submitted papers, but also promote certain (common) avenues
of research aimed at maintaining a maximum of coherence among the
Panel as a whole. Together with their Vetting Boards, Panel Leaders
are responsible for accommodating a plurality of opinions and
approaches within their group and for ensuring sufficient deliberation
time. Therefore, Panel Leaders are also entitled to invite speakers of
their own choice.

Panels are to be opened with a general prospectus of the principal
issues involved by a discussant (or a designated chair) of ten to
fifteen minutes maximum length. The papers should all relate to the
themes or questions investigated by the panel. The panel proposal is
to be submitted together with an abstract (300 words maximum) for the
entire panel explaining its theme and rationale and how the individual
papers contribute to that theme: this is in addition to an individual
abstract (300 words maximum) for each paper. In case it becomes
necessary to limit the number of papers, the selection will be made by
members of the Organizing Committee, which is aiming at maintaining a
high scholarly standard.

The participants are requested to send the enclosed Registration Form
by the end of April 2011. The deadline for paper titles and abstracts
and/or the initial proposals and abstracts for pre-organized
panels/sessions and workshops abstracts is by the end of May 2011.

The symposium languages are, in alphabetical order, Altaic, English,
French, German and Russian.

Participants are requested to finance their own travel expenses and
accommodation. The registration fee (except the members of organizing
committee and institutions) for the symposium is 200 Turkish Lira or
100 Euro. Due to the difficulties involved in wiring money we kindly
request that you pay your registration fee in cash when you arrive at
the symposium.

The fees are intended to cover the expenses for lunch, farewell dinner
and excursion. The details about accommodation options (with prices)
will be provided also in the 2nd circular.

Sincerely yours,

Prof. Dr. Ilhan Sahin
Prof. Dr. Kim Byung Il
