Posted by: Matteo Fumagalli Call for Applications: Afghanistan and Tajikistan Access Program, Dushanbe 26-31 October 2011 The Afghanistan and Tajikistan Access Program invites applications from scholars in the fields of social sciences (e.g. political science, international relations, anthropology, sociology) and history interested in attending an intensive four-day workshop focused on research and proposal design, to be held in Dushanbe (Tajikistan) on 26-31 October 2011. The event is organised by the Asia Research Initiative (ARI) at Central European University, Budapest (Hungary), in collaboration with the Tajik State University of Commerce in Dushanbe, which will also host the workshop. The aim of the Afghanistan and Tajikistan Access Program, launched in 2011, is the following: - provide guidance to scholars on the various stages of preparation of their research proposals; - conduct intensive training sessions on research design and methodology; - provide feedback on the participants' research proposal. Although the workshop is especially tailored to scholars planning to apply to the OSF-funded CARTI Program (Central Asia Research and Training Initiative, http://www.soros.org/initiatives/hesp/focus/carti); however, the program will be of benefit to all scholars interested in issues of research and proposal design (in the social sciences and history). Eligible applicants: Citizens of Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the early stages of their career. The organisers especially welcome applications from the provinces and from scholars without prior exposure to similar programs. The workshop will be conducted in English, although the host institution will provide some assistance with translation (eg from Tajik, Dari, and Russian). How to apply Please send a 1,000-word research project outline and a curriculum vitae to aftap2011@gmail.com Deadline: 20 September 2011 In their project outline applicants should pay particular attention to the following issues: research question, aims and objectives, proposed methodology and methods, and bibliography. Policy-oriented projects will not be considered. Project Director: Matteo Fumagalli, Associate Professor, Asia Research Initiative/Dept of International Relations and European Studies, Central European University, Budapest (Hungary). |
